Abramson Church & Stave LLP (AC&S) announced it has hired Rafael Vazquez and Gary O. Haase as associate attorneys.

Rafael Vazquez practices civil litigation, labor and employment law, and criminal law. Vazquez was previously a Deputy District Attorney at the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted defendants in criminal cases ranging from basic misdemeanor offenses to felony offenses, including special circumstances murder. His experience also includes working as a judicial extern at the United States District Court in San Francisco and while in law school, as a law clerk with an Oakland law firm that specialized in asbestos litigation.

Vazquez holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law, as well as a Masters of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from San Jose State University. Vazquez enjoys giving back to his community. When residing in Alameda County, he mentored at-risk-youth, regularly served as a guest speaker at various elementary schools and high schools and volunteered for Legal Services for Seniors.

Gary O. Haase’s areas of expertise are health care and business law. Haase returns to Abramson Church & Stave LLP after having left the firm in 2006 to relocate to the Bay Area. While in the Bay Area, Haase provided in-house counsel at Exelixis, Inc., a biotechnology company that discovers and develops novel small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. Haase has also held posts at Hoover & Bechtel LLP, Hakuhodo Inc. and at the Embassy of Japan – Ehime Prefectural Government where he was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for Ehime Prefecture.

Gary O. Haase holds a Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor of Arts from University of California, Los Angeles. When previously residing in the area he participated in Leadership Salinas Valley (Class XXIV) and held a board member position for Community of Caring Monterey Peninsula from 2005 through 2006.
